Haiku Poetry
Do You Haiku?
Have you ever heard of Haiku poetry?
Oh, what fun!
Sometimes I just daydream and try to invent different Haiku poems.
Here’s one of mine:
Clover meadow bed
Marshmallow clouds over head
Daydreams take me ‘way
Haiku poetry originated in Japan. There are only 3 lines.
Line one containing 5 syllables.
Line two has 7 syllables.
And line three has 5 syllables again.
It isn’t necessary for the Haiku to rhyme. Your goal is to paint a picture in the mind of your reader. I personally like when mine rhyme, but you don't have to.
Try it.
Can you make your reader visualize your thoughts by writing only
3 lines – 17 syllables?
Here’s mine again. This time, I separated the syllables for you to see:
Clo ver mea dow bed
Marsh mal low clouds o ver head
Day dreams take me ‘way
Did you understand how I felt?
What I was thinking about?
Would you like to try?
How did you do?
Writing Haiku poetry is not only educational, it's alot of fun.
